Career Connections

Each year Full Sail University hosts a Career Expo as part of our annual Hall of Fame festivities. For a media arts school, Hall of Fame is the closest we get to a homecoming.

In addition to honoring the achievements of our successful grads, there’s an interactive creative challenge that's designed to make networking easier and fun. It’s hard to feel intimidated by your mentors when you’re going to head-to-head in a fierce game of Mario Kart or rubbing elbows while painting a mural.

It was in this spirit that I collaborated with my students and colleagues to create a photo scavenger hunt for the Career Expo. In preparing for the event it became apparent the students needed guidance in 3 distinct areas:

  1. Informational Interviews

  2. Professionalism

  3. Authentic Connections

Together we came up with a fun list of actions or items to help the students approach the expo with confidence and purpose. The activity was meant both as an icebreaker and catalyst for meaningful conversations.

I designed a collage template using Apple’s Keynote software that students would fill up with pictures from their day. Once complete, students were required to post their collage to our Facebook group with a series of hashtags that would help promote the event and our program’s presence there.

Following the expo, one of my most outwardly confident students approached me to express appreciation for the activity. She shared that she was overwhelmed by the energy of the day, but that the photo scavenger hunt helped her make the most of the opportunity!
