As one of lead facilitators of the MCBS Industry Partnership Program I get a sneak peek at every media project opportunity that gets submitted for consideration.

Recently an urgent request came in from the leadership of the Orlando Gay Chorus (OGC) that, because of time constraints, could not be funneled through the usual channels.

OGC needed a logo and web site STAT!

This June the chorus plans to launch Voices United a middle school choir camp and they needed to get the dates and registration process posted and promoted ASAP.

Instead of assigning this to a single student, I decided to host a 4-hour build-a-thon where a group of student volunteers would take a divide and conquer approach to completing the web project.

We had teams working on

  • Brand development;
  • Asset collection; and
  • Content strategy.

In just over 4 hours we were able to collaboratively produce a logo and site that OCG loved!

OGC has partnered with my students in the past, offering them many meaningful media-related opportunities and experiences. We have a great working relationship and were happy to return the favor!
